The BMW 6 Series Fast Pimp BMW 6 - Sports Car - Fast

The E24 6 series was introduced in 1976. It was available as 2 door coupe. There were two models available: the 630 CS and the 633 CSi. The 630 CS had a M30 6 cylinder engine with 185 HP. The 633 CSi also had a six cylinder but now with 200 HP. In 1978 BMW introduced the 635 CSi. This model also had a six cylinder but now with 218 HP and a top speed of 230 km/h. The 635 CSi had sport seats, alloy wheels, a front and a rear spoiler. In 1979 the 630 CS was replaced with a 628 CSi. It had a six cylinder engine with 184 HP. In 1982 the 6 series received a facelift. They now had a new dashboard and a service indicator. The 633 CSi went out of production. In 1986 the 628 CSi was no longer available. The 635 CSi now was available with or without catalist. The catalist version had 185 HP. In 1987 the catalist version received more power. It now had 211 HP. In 1989 the new 8 series was introduced so the 6 series went out of production in 1990. No new 6 series was introduced until 2003, when the 645Ci came available .... A coupe based on the E65 7 series, but nicer and faster. The V8 engine means 333 HP, more than enough to reach a limited 250 km/h! A convertible will come available in 2004, as will other engines for the coupe.

The 12 fastest concept cars in the world

12_fast_cars.jpg

Every year, the big car companies roll out a select few models designed for one thing: speed. Long before that happens, however, they show off a jaw-dropping show car to get everyone pumped up. Building ultra-performance machines may seem a bit insensitive given today's tightening oil supply, but there will always be a market for them, and Big Auto is starting to show us that cars can be fast and green at the same time by embracing alternate fuels. Heck, even this Sunday's Indy 500 will be paced by an ethanol-powered Corvette.

While most concept cars look like they could outrun Speed Racer's Mach 5 no problem, in reality concept cars tend to run the gamut from simple rolling bodies with no engine or drive train, to fully developed running and driving cars that you could take out on the street. The manufacturers will often throw out fanciful numbers for the performance of their dream machines, but to be quite honest, those figures are usually just the result of some educated guesswork. Even the ones that can be driven are rarely tested near the limit, so all we really know is what the computer spits out after they punch in all the numbers. That's enough for us to go on, however, and we've compiled a list of what we think are the world's fastest concept cars.

Check out the list after the break.

CColdaerotech.jpg

 concept Oldsmobile Aerotech I
At over 20 years old, the first Aerotech might seem like the geriatric grandpa of this group, but it's here for a good reason. In 1987 race-car legend AJ Foyt drove the Aerotech I to a closed course speed of 257.123 mph, a record that stands to this day. What really impresses me however, is that the engine was no more than a modified version of GM's 2 Litre Turbo Quad 4. Later versions of the Aerotech used a V-8 and broke plenty of other records, but they never quite managed to top AJ's mark.

CCweberfaster.jpg

CONCEPT Weber Sportscars Faster One
Once you reach a certain rarefied level, the line between concept cars and production vehicles becomes pretty blurry. While I'm sure the folks at Weber Sportscars would insist that theirs is a real production car, it's not clear how many running Faster Ones they've actually built. Still, I expect the Swiss company will be happy to take your $1.6 million check should you wish to place an order. When you get your Webber Faster One, (kind of sounds like it was named by an 11 year old), it will have a 900 bhp V-8 with GM LS7 origins, and a claimed top speed of 249 mph.

cchennesseygt.jpg

CONCEPT Hennessey Venom GT
Hennessey Performance Engineering may be a tiny company, but they have a fairly well-established track record for producing wild modified versions of already outrageous supercars. So when they hand us a drawing and say they're going to build it, we tend to believe them. The 1,000-horsepower Venom GT will use the same engine as their Dodge Viper-based Venom 1000 SRT, but this time it'll be slotted in behind the front seats in this sexy new body. Once it's built, Hennessey's computers say that the Venom GT will be able to hit 260 mph, with a 0-to-60 time of 2.4 seconds. Just the thing for a run down I-95.

CCchryslerme412.jpg

CONCEPT Chrysler ME Four Twelve
Born back in happier times before Chrysler's partnership with Mercedes-Benz fizzled, the ME Four-Twelve concept car proved what could be achieved with their combined gene pool of talent. Using an AMG-developed mid-mounted V-12 engine and four turbos (hence the name), the ME Four-Twelve was supposedly good for 248 mph and goes 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. There was even talk of putting the ME Four Twelve into production, with Chrysler going so far as to crash test one, but those dreams died when the wheels came off the Daimler-Chrysler bus.

ccacuraascc.jpg

CONCEPT Acura Advanced Sports Car
It was Acura's mid-engined NSX from 1990 which showed everyone that they were capable of producing more than just gussied-up Hondas, but that old dog finally died a couple of years back. This is what its replacement will look like, and the production version should start rolling off the lines next year. Showing a bit more of Acura's softer, more luxurious side, the ASCC seems more like a fancy GT than it's hair-shirt predecessor. But the rumored V-10 engine, up from the NSX's V-6, should provide plenty of grunt. Acura hasn't yet provided any performance figures, so it's place in the pecking order is hard to determine.

ccaudirzero.jpg

CONCEPT Audi R Zero
You probably wouldn't guess by looking at it, but that zero in R Zero stands for no emissions, indicating that this stunning creation is actually an electric car. Before you go dismissing the R Zero as another tree hugger special that's all show and no go, let me tell you that the four electric motors (one per wheel) in the R Zero deliver a amazing total of 1,091 horsepower. This means that despite the weight of all its batteries, the R Zero streaks from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds on its way up to 286 mph. Now, who wants to be a tree hugger?

CONCEPT BMW M1 Homage

ccbmwm1.jpg

BMW M1 Homage
While few Americans have ever heard of it, 30 years ago BMW launched a supercar called the M1 that was developed out of a stillborn collaboration with Lamborghini. The whole endeavor was a bit of a fiasco, so it's interesting that the Bavarian car maker has decided to commemorate its anniversary with the M1 Homage concept car. I know that our picture looks a bit like an artist's rendering, but that's an actual photograph of a car. Well, I should qualify that, because the M1 Homage has no mechanical bits, and is simply a design study without any plans for production. Still, it looks like it might be able to go 250 mph if they were to slot in a V-10 engine from the M5 sedan.

Concept Mazda Furai

ccmazdafurai.jpg

Mazda Furai
Even with concept cars that are drivable, rarely do they hit more than 2 mph as they are carefully moved from transporter to display stand at the various car shows. That can't be said of the Mazda Furai, however, as it's basically an American LeMans Series race car clothed in a swanky new street legal body. The Furai's three rotor Wankel engine runs on E100 ethanol to deliver about 450 horsepower, although there's no word as to what the translates to in real on the road numbers.

Speaking of translations, Furai in English comes out as roughly The Sound of Wind, although I'm not sure if that conveys the exact nuance they were look

concept Volkswagen GTI W12 650

ccvwgti.jpg

Volkswagen GTI W12 650
What's this, some kid's tweaked-out VW Golf on the list? Well, not exactly, because this is no ordinary Rabbit. Every year there's big gathering of GTI nutjobs in Austria, and VW usually trots out something special for the fans. Last year it was this über-Golf, powered by a twin turbo 6L W12 stuffed behind the front seats. With 650 horsepower on tap, this gives it a very un-Rabbit like 0 to 62 time of 3.7 seconds, along with a 202 mph top speed. Alas, this one-off car will never see production.

concept GM EcoJet

ccgmecojet.jpg

GM EcoJet
Most people know that Jay Leno is a major car nut, but how many realize that he's also passionate about the environment? Of course his idea of a green-friendly supercar is somewhat removed from the norm, and after going through several design ideas on the back of a napkin, this is what he and his team came up with. The EcoJet is based around Corvette C6 chassis components housed under a sleek Cadillac-inspired body, but instead of a big V-8, there's a Honeywell LT-101 jet engine that runs on biodiesel mounted behind the seats. That's good for about 650 horsepower, although other performance figures were not released.

concept Jaguar XJ220

ccjaguarxj220.jpg

Jaguar XJ220
One mistake that manufacturers sometimes make is to take deposits from customers for a new model based on the concept version. This is what happened to Jaguar after it started showing off the XJ220 concept at car shows in 1988. They took literally hundreds of orders with cash deposits for the V12 four-wheel drive supercar, only to discover that they couldn't actually make a street-legal version with all of those features intact. By the time they finally delivered the first customer car, the big V-12 had shrunk to a 3.5L V-6, and the four-wheel drive was gone. Customers were pissed, and some demanded their money back. Ironically, the production version's performance was actually very similar to the prototype, which was capable of 0 to 60 mph on 3.5 seconds and over 200 mph.

CONCEPT Dodge Tomahawk

ccdodgetomahawk.jpg

Dodge Tomahawk
Okay, so it's technically not a car, but the Tomahawk does have four tires, so we're including it. The Dodge Tomahawk shows just what happens when you take a 500-horsepower Viper engine, and build something kind of like a motorcycle around it. Tipping the scales at less than half the weight of most supercars, the published performance figures of 0 to 60 mph in 0.75 seconds with a top speed of 750 mph are guaranteed to generate a double take. Of course these figures are just theoretical (another Dodge release pegged the top speed at 420 mph), as nobody has yet had the cojones to test the Tomahawk's true potential. Amazingly, Dodge built 10 copies of the Tomahawk which were then sold through Neiman Marcus for a cool $550,000 each, as a non-running "rolling sculpture."

Most Expensive Cars In The World: Top 10 2009-2008

World’s Most Expensive Cars

What is the most expensive car in the world? The 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe was sold for $8,700,000 in 1987. However, that car and many alike will not be included in this list because it is not available on the market today. It is hard to imagine someone would actually spend 8 million dollars on a car instead of using it for something more productive. However, if you have the money and the opportunity, you will definitely spend a small fraction of it to place a few of these supercars in your garage. Here is the 10 most expensive cars available on the market.

1.Bugatti Veyron $1,192,057. This is by far the most expensive street legal car available on the market today. It is the fastest accelerating car reaching 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. It claims to be the fastest car with a top speed of 253 mph+. However, the title for the fastest car goes to the SSC Ultimate Aero which exceed 253 mph pushing this car to 2nd place for the fastest car.

free auto insurance quote on Top 10: world's fastest cars

Bugatti Veyron
By Christopher Hubbard, contributor
It's that time of year again. Every late autumn MSN Cars counts down the fastest cars in the world and aims to answer that fundamental questions asked of most cars: "what'll it do?" The answer as in most of these cases is pretty seriously fast - how does a mile every 15 seconds grab you? We only include cars that are currently in production or about to get there - so the Ford GT and Porsche Carrera GT are (sadly) now gone from our list. As ever we start with the "slowest" and work upwards.
10. And the runners-up are…
Ruf RT 12
Ruf RT 12 - please click photos to enlarge, more at bottom
Rather than stick a single car into the number 10 slot, we thought it’d be more fun to round up the list with several… let’s say ‘unverified’ alternatives. No official showing from Porsche since the demise of the Carerra GT could easily be countered with a number of tuner 911 from specialists so deep into modification they actually count as independent manufacturers in some countries. Ruf and 9ff, for example, will happily sell you a professionally fettled 911 turbo capable of well over 200mph. Similarly, Brabus and others make a business out of making Mercedes go very quickly indeed, and the CLS based Rocket has 730bhp and is supposedly electronically limited to 217mph.
Barabus TKR
Barabus TKR
America is another notable absentee, but the most likely candidate, Saleen’s S7 Twin Turbo makes no greater claim than 200mph+, even if previous talk had suggested 260mph might be possible. The UK’s very own Ultima also claims 200mph+ for certain versions of the GTR, but specifications are quite individual. What we can say for certain is that Ultima does hold the 0-100mph-0 world record, with its GTR720 performing the feat in 9.4 seconds – half a second faster than even the Veyron can manage. Another UK wild card is the Barabus TKR, which was a surprise showing at this year’s British motorshow, and is theoretically good for 270mph.
But then they also claim 0-62 in less than two seconds, and we’re really not sure if that’s possible. But for totally off-the-wall (and totally unverifiable) try Project 1221, an Italian concern apparently building a turbine powered supercar with the equivalent of 1500bhp and a 270mph+ top speed…
9. Aston Martin Vanquish S 200mph+, 0-62mph 4.8 secs
Aston Martin Vanquish S
The original Vanquish could never really be accused of being short of power, but such is the pace of development these days its cheaper DB9 relative was snapping at its heels in the performance department. Costing some £60,000 more than the DB9 that simply wouldn’t do. So the Vanquish S was born, raising power from its front-mounted V12 to 520bhp, a hike of 60bhp. That also pushes the top speed of this British bruiser up beyond the 200mph barrier.
As well as the engine modifications the S has a tweaked chassis to provide a more focussed, rawer driving experience, marking it out from the still available regular Vanquish and the DB9. Still largely hand built, in tiny numbers, the Vanquish S is a perfect British riposte to the thoroughbred Italians here; sophisticated, yet brutally fast, Aston Martin’s flagship is a very desirable and useable 200mph+ machine. KF
8. Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano 205mph+, 0-62mph 3.7 secs
Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
The Ferrari Enzo was such a technical tour de force that it’s easy to imagine the engineers at Maranello scratching their heads over what to do next. No such luck for the competition as it turns out, since in developing a replacement for the 575M Maranello, Ferrari have completely re-written the script for front-engined GT supercars. Other cars on this list may be faster – in some cases very much so – but the 599 GTB Fiorano is just fantastically accomplished to drive.
Technical highlights include Magnetorheological Suspension Control, Formula 1 derived traction and stability control, and the not insignificant achievement of being 40kg lighter than the outgoing 575M despite being considerably larger. Don’t care about the techy stuff? Then simple glory in this 6.0-litre V12’s 8,400rpm redline, soulful interior, and the fact you’re driving a car with a prancing horse on the bonnet. Shame it doesn’t look a little bit prettier, but then the world never has been perfect.
7. Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren “722 Edition” 209mph, 0-62mph 3.6 secs
Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren “722 Edition”
What kind of supercar really needs a special edition? Well pretty much everyone is at it these days so that’s something of a moot point. But if anything does, it’s the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren – which has the unfortunate double problem of the McLaren F1 as a forefather and various AMG Mercedes as siblings. Ceramic brakes and an unrestricted top speed are all very well, but you don’t really expect them to be combined with an automatic gearbox and the interior from an executive saloon.
So, in order to up the interest a bit, only 150 “722 Edition” SLRs will ever be made, featuring a 650bhp version of the 5.5-litre V8, specially tuned suspension, a quicker 0-62mph dash and a top speed of 209mph – that’s a whole 1 mph faster than the ‘ordinary’ car. Hmmm. Tough to pick when an SL65 with the limiter removed will lose you your licence just as comprehensively for about £200,000 less.
6. Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 211mph, 0-62 3.4 seconds
Lamborghini Murciélago LP640
Lamborghini Murciélago LP640
Lamborghini is synonymous with flamboyance. So when it unveiled this car at the 2006 Geneva motorshow, the world gasped. Who on earth had decided to paint a Murciélago in gloss primer grey? But the LP640 isn’t any ordinary Murciélago , and we rather suspect the utilitarian hue wasn’t just about making the car look harder than a Stealthbomber on a night out. Toning down the paint helps emphasize that this Lamborghini is all about performance, an impression enhanced by the optional transparent engine cover that keeps the LP640’s wailing V12 hard permanently on display.
211mph is six more than the standard version, which doesn’t sound much until you realise it’s taken 61 more horses to achieve, and the going gets pretty tough over 200mph. The total bhp count now stands at 631, helping drop the 0-62mph time by an impressive 0.4 seconds to only 3.4. Oh, and you still get the scissor doors – which should keep the traditional clientele happy.
5. Pagani Zonda C12 F 214mph, 0-62mph 3.5 secs
Pagani Zonda C12 F
The Pagani Zonda has never been about outright top speed. When you’ve got such extravagant design and exquisite detailing, not to mention epic acceleration, sublime handling and a pair of shoes made by the Pope’s cobbler included in the asking price, becoming part of the supercar elite was almost a given. And Pagani’s done it in record time – going from obscurity to revered supercar status in the blink of an eye. Still, it’s nice to know you can back up all that flash with a bit of firepower if you need to, and the introduction of the 214mph Zonda F nicely boosts a range that otherwise barely cracks the magic 200.
7.3-litres of bespoke Mercedes-Benz AMG V12 does the business very nicely, providing upwards of 602bhp (650bhp in Clubsport guise), and 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds. We’ll take ours in bare carbon-fibre, please. And if you want real exclusivity, there’s a Roadster version available, too.
4. Gumpert Apollo 224mph, 0-62mph 3.0 secs
Gumpert Apollo
Yikes. Well, you’re not exactly going to miss this, uh, beauty appearing suddenly in the rear-view mirror. And seriously, move over, because although you’ve probably never heard of it, being fourth on this list means there aren’t many cars capable of outrunning a Gumpert Apollo. 224mph is impressive, but it’s the 0-62mph time that really grabs our attention. Three seconds flat is seriously quick – you’ll be needing a Veyron if you want to go faster. Such high levels of poke hint at an exotic under-bonnet experience, but don’t be too disappointed when we tell you the Apollo is powered by a 4.2-litre Audi V8.
Two appropriately substantial turbochargers later and you’ve got 650bhp under your right foot. That ought to be enough to keep the driving experience entertaining, especially when combined with a six-speed sequential gearshift and rear-wheel drive.
3. Bristol Fighter T 225mph+, 0-62mph 3.5 secs
Bristol Fighter T
Eccentric is an overused word, but as a description of Bristol, the reclusive British carmaker, it seems perfectly apt. Imagine a sideboard on wheels, add a whacking great American V8 and you’ve got a Blenheim. Bristol got by building variations of these for years (and years) until suddenly it decided a supercar was desperately needed to complete the line-up. Thus, the 200mph Fighter was born, and having gotten hip to the new millennium, Bristol can’t stop improving the specification of the thing. Apparently due to customer demand – no seriously, Bristol customers do attend trackdays – the new Fighter T has an utterly bonkers 1012bhp and immense 1036lb ft of torque.
That’s more power than the Veyron, thanks to a twin-turbocharged version of the 8.0-litre V10 more often found under the bonnet of a Dodge SRT-10. Electronically limited to 225mph, Bristol claims a frankly ludicrous potential maximum of 270mph. They neglect to mention the price, but if you have to ask…
2. Koenigsegg CCX 245mph+, 0-62mph 3.2 secs
Koenigsegg CCX
Poor Koenigsegg. Having spent the entire century so far trying to capture the McLaren F1’s top speed record, the Swedish supercar maker finally achieves it with the 242mph CCR when Bugatti comes along and rearranges the rulebook. That’s got to hurt. Still, what better way to bury the pain than to develop a new version – the CCX. A bespoke 4.7-litre V8 with twin superchargers sits just behind the passenger compartment, developing 806bhp and 678lb ft of torque – enough to propel the car from 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds despite only having rear wheel drive.
245mph is achievable if you can find, well, a runway long enough, though the low drag shape that allows this does mean the Koenigsegg can be a handful in the corners. Extra bonus points for having carbon-fibre wheels on the options list and doors that are cooler than a penguin’s feet.
1. Bugatti EB 16.4 Veyron 253mph+, 0-62mph 2.5 secs
Bugatti EB 16.4 Veyron
Officially the fastest car in the world. Ever. In a straight line the Bugatti Veyron simply owns the opposition. Electronically limited to 253mph, the Veyron’s top-end superiority is underlined by simply staggering acceleration. Remember the 243mph McLaren F1? Even given a 100mph head start, the Veyron would still beat one to the double ton. More fun stats include emptying the 100-litre fuel tank in 11 minutes at maximum velocity – a situation engineers have described as a ‘safety feature’. Travel that fast for a whole half hour and even the special high-speed tyres would apparently start to melt.
With four turbochargers, the 8.0-litre W16 engine makes a minimum 1000bhp, so it’s no surprise to discover the car contains 17 different cooling devices. Four-wheel drive and sophisticated aerodynamics mean the Veyron isn’t just a hyper-performance dragster, either, cornering incredibly for something weighing 1888kg. A super-fast shifting seven-speed DSG gearbox and mega price-tag completes this ultimate high-speed package.
